Where the data comes from
Every number, name and description comes from PokéAPI, a free and open database of Pokémon game data. Artwork, sprites and cries are loaded from PokéAPI's publicsprites and criesrepositories. Release years and platforms on the games page are added by hand.
How it is built
- A build script downloads about 4,700 resources from PokéAPI once and caches them on disk, as PokéAPI's fair use policy asks.
- It reduces them to a few compact files: 1,025 species with 1,347 forms, 900 moves, 313 abilities and 32 games.
- Every page is generated ahead of time, so nothing is fetched from PokéAPI while you browse; only images come from its CDN.
- Filters, sorting and search run in the browser on data that is already in the page.
